Gamers and geeks rejoice, a video game themed cabaret is coming to GRUB Mcr this December!

‘Ember & the Vixens’ are coming to town and, as an early Christmas present, they will be putting on a lavish cabaret filled with Video Game characters, pop culture delights and all the fantastical escapism you could ask for. 
Selina Helliwell’s sparkling show will turn CULTPLEX into a cabaret den, featuring live music, burlesque, spoken word, circus & more - in this Gamer special.

CHINESE LANTERN CRAFTING with Floating Art

Chinese Painting on Lanterns - A Workshop

With the Mid-Autumn Festival in mind, we're excited for the return of our special Lantern Painting Workshop! You'll get to craft your own lantern as well as learn Chinese Painting techniques to decorate the lantern with. You will use materials such as Bamboo Brushes, Sumi Ink and Mineral Paints.

The workshop will begin with a demonstration from our teacher and local Artist Ula Fung. She will teach you some basic painting techniques and before you start on your Lantern you will warm up by painting onto Rice paper. We will bring along a selection of references themed on the Mid Autumn Festival. You will then have a chance to think about your design before building and painting onto your Lantern.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and up so if you haven't picked up a paint brush since school or you regularly paintin your own time, everybody is welcome to create together.

STUDIO GHIBLI PAINTING WORKSHOP by Floating Art

Join Floating Art at GRUB MCR where they will be holding their special Studio Ghibli Painting workshop!

To help you get started, they will teach you some basic drawing and watercolour techniques including colour mixing as well as line drawing and guide you through your painting session throughout. To help get you started, the session will start with a demonstration from our teacher afterwhich you will complete your own painting. All experience levels are welcome, our teacher will adjust her advice according to your experience.

There will be a wide selection of Studio Ghibli references for you to choose from but for sure, if you have a particular favourite, you're welcome to bring along your own reference. In these workshops you choose what you want to paint.
